Book Review - 501 Enchanting Embroidery Designs

Thursday, June 29, 2017

Today, I'm reviewing a delightful book from Tuttle Publishing entitled: 501 Enchanting Embroidery Designs. In the past, I've always been very impressed with their books, so it was a pleasure to once again have the opportunity to explore another one.

501 Enchanting Embroidery Designs is FULL of ideas for adding embroidery and cross-stitch to household items, embellish clothing, etc. with detailed instructions on the various stitches and techniques. This book is an excellent way to discover this skill if you're a complete beginner, or someone more experienced who is looking for new ideas.

As you can see in these sample pages, the photographs are beautiful, and the instructions are very clear.

Embroidery is something I have not really done much, so I was able to look at this book much like a beginner would. I have done cross-stitch in the past, but it has been many, many years, so I was excited to try something new. I decided to add embroidery to a new dress I wanted to sew for my daughter. After looking through the book together, she chose the two birds on a perch with the flowers and heart.

First, I sewed the dress (I modified a tank top pattern from the Spring 1/2013 issue of Ottobre magazine) and then transferred the design onto the front.

After a few hours of stitching, it was done!

It's so very special to be able to create something unique and one-of-a-kind, and I know Anja will enjoy wearing this all summer long!

I look forward to trying more designs from this excellent book! In my experience, you can't go wrong with the quality of a Tuttle book. To check out this, and other craft titles from Tuttle Publishing, head over to their website.
