Kid's Clothes Week Starts Tomorrow!

Sunday, April 21, 2013
KCWC

For the first time, I've been able to commit and sign up to participate in Kid's Clothes Week (formerly called Kid's Clothing Week Challenge) and I can't wait!  My sewing corner has been tidied up so everything is in it's place.  My fabrics are all neatly piled up and ready to go.  The outfits I'm planning to complete are ready to hit the machines!

If you haven't heard about this challenge issued by Meg at Elsie Marley, you can check out all the details on the new blog dedicated to this now quarterly event (it used to be bi-annual).  Basically, all you have to do is sew for your child(ren) for one hour a day for seven days.  That's it!  Truth be told, on a good day, I sew at least that much, probably closer to two or three with sketching, fabric/pattern cutting, planning, researching (does Pinterest, count?!).  So, really this is just going to be a more formalized commitment to do what I already love!

My plans include a full outfit for each of my children, starting with Tobias since Anja's been getting the majority of my sewing attention lately.  I've already started his look and it's almost ready.  Anja's outfit will include a variation of the Bubble Pocket Shorts that I'm really excited to share.  I'm trying out a fabric I've never used for them before, but I think (and hope!) it'll work.  Plus it's going to have a couple things added to it that I think will add to the cuteness factor of the shorts.

So, that's on my agenda this week...how about you?  Are you going to participate in KCW?

Pattern Swap with Straightgrain (and Giveaway CLOSED)

Thursday, April 18, 2013

About a month ago, my online friend, An from StraightGrain and I, both released our first pdf patterns.  To celebrate the launch of our patterns, we thought it would be fun to swap and create our own versions of each other's dresses...An, the Ruffle Top, and me, her Bubble Dress.  As soon as I received the pattern, I ordered some Michael Miller Madrona Road Wild Carrot Blue and waited as patiently as possible for it to arrive.

With An's beautiful photos and easy-to-follow instructions, it was a breeze to sew this dress in less than a couple hours.  I love how cleanly finished everything looks, to the point where it could almost be worn inside out and still look gorgeous!  It's fully lined (I used some sunny yellow cotton lawn) and has an easy-to-sew button closure in the back.  The pattern also includes the option of an adorable peter pan collar and includes sizes 1-6 years.

Who wouldn't make one of these beautiful dresses, right?!

An is offering E&E readers the opportunity to pick up a copy of her pattern with a $1 discount!  Just use the code: ELEPHANTS  (expires Tuesday, April 23).

Or how about trying your luck winning a copy?  One lucky reader is going to win a copy of Straightgrain's Bubble Dress pattern!

It's no secret that I could hardly wait to see what An would make with my pattern using her mad skills and sense of style!  Head over to StraightGrain now to see An's stunning version of the Ruffle Top!
