Mori Dress & Top Pattern

Monday, February 29, 2016

After much anticipation, introducing, the Mori Dress & Top pattern.

The Mori Dress and Top is inspired by the soft, whimsical characteristics of Japanese Mori Kei (forest style). The delicate flounces are inserted into princess seams to create a dramatic silhouette that will twirl just about as much as the beautifully gathered skirt. The fully-lined bodice has no closures or visible seams, so you can show-off the design in your fabric of choice. The Mori is sure to be a favourite, so be prepared to make a few!

Three Little Skirts

Friday, February 12, 2016

With spring just around the corner, it was time to make some new skirts for my girl.  She rarely wears anything but dresses and skirts these days, so she was thrilled with these new additions to her wardrobe.

Peaches & Cream

Monday, January 25, 2016

If you've been following along on Instagram, you've seen this latest dress I've made for my daughter.  I was inspired by this lovely peachy-coral coloured fabric I found at my local fabric shop.  It's got beautiful gold shimmery stripes and begged to be something a little fancy, so I self-drafted a double skirted, 3/4 sleeve dress with an invisible zipper closure.  The bow in front was added completely my daughter's request.  I love the fact that she is getting more involved with the design process!

Swan Lake Tinny Dress

Wednesday, January 13, 2016

Prior to the holidays, I had the pleasure of making my daughter a new dress for Christmas.  She had chosen some beautiful fabric at a shop in Vancouver and from that point onward, it was a constant "When are you going to make my Swan Lake dress?".  She couldn't wait, and when it was done, she adored it and has worn it so many times since.  The Tinny by StraightGrain has been recently updated, and I'm so pleased with the pattern and its classic design with many options.  There will be more Tinny dresses for my girl in the near future!

My Favourite E&E; Pattern

Monday, July 6, 2015

You know how with your children you don't have favourites?  You love them all equally, right?  Obviously!  Well, I don't know if I can say the same about my patterns.  If I had to pick a favourite, I would have to say it's the Bohemian Babydoll.  Why, you might ask?  Here are my top five reasons:

1.  No closures on the back so patterned fabric is seamless (and it's super quick to make and economical, too!)

2.  The hem facings.  I LOVE to contrast the hem facing for that peek of colour or pattern depending on the dress.

 3.  Flutter sleeves.  Again, I love contrasting them.

4.  The hi-lo hemline...a must to show off the hem facings!!

5.  The way my little girl feels when she's wearing it!  Really, she just loves it (this one in particular)!
I'm going to have to make a few more for her to twirl in before the summer's over.

The gorgeous fabric is London Calling from Robert Kaufman.  It's a glorious lightweight, perfect for a Bohemian Babydoll.

By the way, the pattern's had a little facelift in the past week.  Now, the more efficient method for adding the full lining without closures is included in the pattern (no need to link to this tutorial).

The cap sleeve option is also included now, and doesn't need to be downloaded separately.

Another bit of news, is the Bohemian Babydoll (and also the Hemlock Top) are going to be available in the German language at the new Näh-Connection pattern shop soon.  Very exciting!  I'll let you know when the shop officially opens.
So, there you have it!  My admission that I play favourites with my patterns. ;)
